VSS timeout issues, restart not suitable solution
Hello I have had continual issues with vss writers time outs on one of our machines we are backing up. Running Windows Server 2008R2 SP1, using BE2010 R3 SP1 The vss writers continue to cause the backup to fail due to timeout. They restart fixes the error status on the writers, but they will time out almost each and every time i run the job. The tech's say i have the job setup correctly, with aofo selected, ms volume shadow copy service(windows 2003 and later) selected and System-use microsoft software shadow copy provider selected. And backup files following junction points. I have selected "Process logical volumes for backup one at a time" too see if this helps. Any suggestions on fixes, besides contanct MS? We don't have support with MS, and as we are suggested to use their system writers by symantec, i would hope that Symantec would provide better aid in fixing VSS issues. There is a logs directory in Netbackup (/usr/openv/logs AND/OR /usr/openv/netbackup/logs). When the backup teams runs any of the backups or restores, they seem to create logfiles in the root directory (bplog.bkup..., Restarted_restore.log..., <hastname>.data/time.log). As with the process logfiles and creating a directory in the above locations, can you locate these files in a particular directory? They end up cluttering my root filesystem and I don't particularly care for them in the root filesystem.15KViews0likes3CommentsOracle DB performance hit during Daily Full Backups

I have been a netbackup enterprise server user form many many years (since about 3.1). I have always ran my media and master servers on the same server. Today I have split my master server off by its-self and created a new media server. My questions revolve around the settings in the bp.conf and vm.conf. If there is a document that can answer some of the questions I have please let me know, my search queries have not returned the results I am looking for: Questions such as the use of: SERVER and MEDIA_SERVER, do I include the media server twice as a server and media_server or just a media_server? On the master and in it's own bp.conf? SCRATCH_POOL and MEDIA_ID_BARCODE_CHARS do these entries belong on the master server or media server. It seems to function on the master server just fine without either entry on the media server Those are just a few, however I guess I am looking for why an entry would be placed in the master vs the media or the other way around. This is 6.5.6, I am preparing for 7.xSolved13KViews1like11CommentsMIssing PATH: for drives
