Error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start
Today I changed all the Backup Exec services that were using the Administartor account to logon using an account that I created that is a member of Backup Operators group. Now when I try to start Device & Media, Job Engine and Backup Exec Server services, I get this 1068 error, with 7001 and 7023 error logs in Event Viewer. Did some research.... I checked these 2 issues: - Made sure the MSSQL$BKUPEXEC service was started - Checked folder permissions on the Veritas folder under Program Files I found the suggestion below but, there is no Bewinui.ini file. I did this same thing, change the service logon accounts, on a server running BE 8.6 and had no problems. Any suggestions? ----------------------------------- This error message can also occur if the Backup Exec service account password have been changed. To resolve this issue do the following: 1. If the Operating System is Windows NT4, Click on Start | Settings | Control Panel | Services or If the Operating System is Windows 2000, click on Start | Programs | Administrative Tools | Services 2. While the Backup Exec services are stopped for each Backup Exec service, type in the password and confirm the password. 3. Then Open Windows Explorer 4. Navigate the Backup Exec directory (the default directory is C: Program files/Veritas/Backup Exec/NT/ Data) to the Data sub directory. 5. Rename the Bewinui.uni file in the Data folder to Bewinui.old. 6. Close Windows Explorer and Start the Backup Exec services. Warning: As a results of renaming the Bewinui.uni file all user -defined shares will be lost. Thus, all user-defined shares will need to be re-created, all stored authentication will need to be re-entered, and all notifications will need to be re-created. ----------------------------------- ------------------------------------- Event ID: 7001 Description: The Backup Exec Server service depends on the Backup Exec Device & Media Service service which failed to start because of the following error: The database specified does not exist. -------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- Event ID: 7023 Description: The Backup Exec Device & Media Service service terminated with the following error: The database specified does not exist. -------------------------------------

Error 1068 when attempting to start BackupExec
Hi, I have installed backupExec 2010 on my Windows Server. I keep getting Error 1068: Dependency group failed to start. Some facts: -SQL Server is running (I run Hyper-V and to access VMs, my SQL Server must be running). -I have the domain account set with administrator, domain user and domain admin rights. -I was even able to login before but all of a sudden, not anymore. What could be wrong? Thanks

Backups failing - "Ready; No idle devices are available"
All of a sudden, Backup Exec 2012 is not running most of my jobs. The job status stays at"Ready; No idle devices are available" It ran 2 of the backups but I'm not sure why it didn't run the others. I have 2 drives, but it would only use one at a time. Both initially have a status of 'Online.' When I was able to get one of my backup jobs running, it would load into one drive, that status would change to 'Active.' Then, if I try to run another job, the other drive will change to 'Active' for a moment, then go back to 'Online' and the job status goes to"Ready; No idle devices are available" These are the things I've tried: Shutting down and restarting the server and the backup device Restarting the Backup Exec services Pausing and unpausing the backup drives What else can I try?

getting Not Appendable (End marker unreadable)
I have Backup Exec 11d. Ijust ran an inventory on some of the tapes in our library (we have a Dell Powervault Tl2000) and 4 of them came back with 'Not appendable (end marker unreadable)'. what could be causing this? The media sets are configured to inifinte - allow appendable. Thanks

How to Add a Tape Drive
I have an older system running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise and Symantec Backup Exec 10d. The internal tape drive (Dell DLT-VS160) has gone bad. Ihave connectedan external tape drive (Dell PowerVault 110T) to the SCSI connection on the back of the server. However, Backup Exec does not yet "see" this new tape drive. Wht must I do so that the system and Backup Exec see this tape drive and so that Backup Exec can use it? Thanks for the help.

Differences in Catalog and Inventory
I am new to using Backup Exec and I'm trying to understand the differences in catalog and inventory. I inserted new tapes into a tape library and ran an inventory job. This showed all my media and under media description it shows "blank media". When would you run a catalog job? What are they used for? Is it necessary to run when new media is inserted? vCenter backup fail
I keep running into the same issue where BE2014 will error out when it reaches vCenter in the VM backup scheme. I get the following messages whether BE is backing up the whole datacenter or backing up the indivual VM. vcenter test-Backup -- The job failed with the following error: An attempt to take a snapshot of a virtual machine failed because it was unable to quiesce an application. A quiesced snapshot could not be created for the virtual machine (DC)ha-datacenter(DC)\vm\Vcenter. Is vCenter supported in BE2014?

How to Format or Erase a tape (Backup Exec 10d)
How can I wipe a tape? If I try to use the the Long Erase, Quick Erase or Format option via Device and Media Operations the options are always greyed out.
