pure disk

The PureDisk Deduplication Option (PDDO) enables you to configure a PureDisk
storage pool as a NetBackup OpenStorage unit. The NetBackup OpenStorage API
enables NetBackup to communicate with PureDisk. When you install the PDDO
plug-in on a NetBackup media server, you enable NetBackup to write backups to
a PureDisk storage pool. All data in a PureDisk storage pool is deduplicated, which
reduces the amount of space that is needed for the NetBackup backup copies.

The NetBackup OpenStorage API
enables NetBackup to communicate with PureDisk.

What is the NetBackup OpenStorage API here? What it means

  • The API is the actual software component - Open Storage is the term used for devices or systems that can be used with NetBackup via the API

  • It is just a piece of software that allows the NetBackup daemons / processes to communicate with another piece of software - in the case you refer to it is PDDO but could be a DataDomain or Quantum DXi type device

It is a device driver if you like - it sits between the two to aloow them to work.

  • You dont have a choice - it is not a seperate installation it is installed as part of NetBackup software for PDDO these days (other vendors do have an API that does need to be installed)

Without it you could not communicate and therefore not back up to PDDO

  • other vendors do have an API that does need to be installed.

what is diff between API and OPEN STORAGE?

    PDDO sits between?
